The Columbia Records "Hall Of Fame" (HOF) two sided "hits" reissue series initially appeared in 1954. It continued at least into the early 1980s..
During the 1960s Hall Of Fame labels featured a disc number which began with the prefix #4. Circa 1970 the series converted to a #13 prefix. Although the following theory is based on only one example (13 - 33082) it appears that during the transition period between #4 and #13 prefixes some #4 prefixed discs were factory issued with a #13 prefix number white box with black numerals and lettering overlaying the #4 prefix disc number, etc. on both sides of the label. Although an example of each has not yet been located, all (northwest) HOF discs were likely issued with #4 then #13 prefixes.
For many years HOF discs sported a distinctive red label background with black bars across the top center in which were the words COLUMBIA, the Columbia logo and below that HALL OF FAME and white lines above, between and below may first have been issued as early as 1962.
The red label format seems to have remained standard for the #13 prefix series until around April, 1983 when it was replaced by a rather non-descript design featuring a gray label background with black logo, numerals and lettering. The only HOF identification connected with these discs was on the original paper sleeve.
The last known incarnation of the HOF series featured the Columbia gray label format also sporting the Collectables logo-name. (See Collectables Columbia Hall Of Fame)
Some - if not all - 1962 + Red label discs were distributed in gold - non picture -Columbia logo Hall Of Fame sleeves.
