"Peter Gunn Rock" /

DATE: 1962

MISC NOTES:

"The Kingsmen reached the point of wanting to cut their very own record. They decided to cut an "original" called "Peter Gunn Rock." In truth, the tune was a knockoff of the Wailers "Gunnin' For Peter" (12/1959 The Fabulous Wailers Side A, Track #5  Golden Crest #3075) which had been a knockoff of Henry Mancini's theme for the popular TV detective show Peter Gunn. Only a handful of acetate discs were cut, but the Kingsmen managed to get a copy into the jukebox at (Portland's) Douglas High School's cafeteria."
