Misc Notes: Born in Bath, Kentucky, Rex Amburgey ended up in Washington where he became a player on the Tacoma / Puyallup country music scene in the late 1950s. He was a contemporary of active Tacoma musicians including Buck Owens, Nokie Edwards, Ira Allen, Rollie Webber -- and, then, the Ventures. The Ventures backed Amburgey on the recording of "Let The 4 Winds Blow," and he provided the vocals on what is probably The Ventures' most rockabilly-styled recording: Marty Robbins' "Sugaree". That same song would also be recorded by other Northwest musicians including: the Sonics, the Jackasses; Keith Colley, and Kent Morrill. Amburgey also cut a single credited to Rex Amburgey and the Apaches.
