LANDON, ELEANOR

Homebase: Seattle, WA.
Stats:
Misc Notes: Some years ago a stack of vinyl 78 rpm records and 10" acetate discs was discovered at an estate sale. Upon closer study the set appears to have been the personal collection of a local singer/songwriter of the 1940s-1950s era named Eleanor Landon. Some have her name written on them as the performing artist. One features her credited as the song's composer. Others -- credited to other singers/performers -- may be Landon's compositions. Some of those singers (Marge Whaley, Francis McKay, Lew Morrsion) are known local musicians, and some of their uncredited backing bands have yet to be identified. Then there are the local discs which don't appear to have any direct connection to Landon, and may just be discs she kept because she knew or liked those artists and/or their songs. Regardless, the Landon archive represents early recording history as it includes discs on some of Seattle's earliest labels (as associated with the earliest recording studios). It also overlaps with such NW record biz pioneers as Lew Morrison, Blondie and Slide Rule (Ernie & Hazel Vigars), Here is a list of the Landon collection of discs:

  • Aqua Records #306 - Eddie K
  • Audiodisc acetate - Janie Tucker - Billy Lee
  • Commercial Reciords acetate - "El" Landon
  • Electricraft acetate - mystery
  • Electricraft acetate - Clifford & Clark
  • Globe Records #888 / #222
  • Knotty Records #101
  • Knotty Records #102

  • Listen (10" acetate) - Marge Whaley
  • Listen (10" acetate) - Francis Mckay / Marge Whaley
  • Slate Records #6034
  • Vega Records #888
  • Western Recording Studios (acetate) - Isham / Stevens "Dream Book"
