MISC NOTES: Long associated with the Northwest lounge duo Dave and Suzanne, Dave Philips is now performing solo. Last month's NWD/SR featured Dave's first recording venture in his new career, a single titled "Godzilla Ate Tukwilla" ("Godzilla Ate Tukwilla"/"Picky Picky" Christy Records C - 1005 Bellevue, WA). This month we are featuring the album package from which the two single cuts were taken. Dave says the ten, mostly original tunes are representative of the variety of tempos and styles utilized in his live performances. They range from country through early rock with a lot of his own personality incorporated into each. [NORTHWEST DISC-COVERIES and SOUND REPORT volume 4 #10 December, 1979.]

MISC NOTES: "Dave Phillips has been associated with the Northwest lounge scene for a number of years. Long an integral part of the popular duo Dave and Suzanne, Dave is now pursuing a solo career. One of the first steps in his new endeavor has been to release a 45 rpm featuring a novelty tune titled "Godzilla Ate Tukwilla". Dave says the idea for the song just popped into his head some years back while performing. The rhyming combination of the Japanese movie monster devouring the south King County town of Tukwilla clicked, so a song was born. Over the years the tune grew to include an incalculable number of verses, some of which are captured here on plastic. Dave emphasizes that the recording was done in a "simulated live" setting to get the feeling of the song as it is when performed on stage. For a B-side to "Godzilla" Phillips chose an up tempo banjo instrumental with a "catchy melody." [NORTHWEST DISC-COVERIES & SOUND REPORT Volume 4 #9 November, 1979.]
