PIERYMPLEZAK

Pierymplezak: Konzak, Dalrymple & Pierce, 1972, Seattle Times photo by Larry Dion.

Homebase: Bainbridge Island, WA
Stats: 1971-1974 / 1981-1983
Misc Notes: A folk-rock trio with an odd name that was pronounced: Peer-rimple-zak. It was a combination of the three members names: Paul Pierce (12-string); Bob Dalrymple (6-string); and Ron Konzak (bass). All three had been architects prior to dropping those careers for music. They performed at the Seattle Opera House for a World Without War Council event in 1971, at the Bellevue Art Fair and at the Mural Amphitheater for Seattle's Fun Fest in July 1972. Their first record, "Jo Anne," did not sell well. Their second, "The Geoduck Song" -- hit the Top-20 on several regional radio charts. They began recording a full album, but it remains unreleased. In September 1972 Konzak told The Seattle Times that: "We're going to call it 'Fiddleheads.' I guess you could say that the Pierymplezak is into the Northwest. We get off on trees and water..." "And geoducks," said Pierce. By 1973 they were gigging at the Washington Plaza's Oak Room lounge; in 1974 at the Headquarter at 110th & 8th Avenue NE and at Mad Anthony's in Bellevue. The trio evidently went on hiatus for several years before resurfacing for a few more of actively performing.

"The Seattle Times," July 16, 1972.
