Misc Notes: Gerry Pond grew up in Seattle, and initially played his grandmother's 1904 Washburn guitar, and in 1957 bought a used Gibson J-45 from a tiny shop in the University District. In 1965 he befriended that area's top new psychedelic folk-rock band, the Daily Flash, who led the way to the nascent scene in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco. Pond headed there as well and in 1966 was was signed by Warner Bros. / Reprise Records who released his wonderfully hippie-dippy, and Donovan-inspired, single "The Sometime Girl" / "The Happiness Song." Among his and the Daily Flash's new friends were members of the Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, Janis Joplin and Big Brother, the Doors, and the Grateful Dead. From November 28 through December 1, 1966, Pond opened shows by the Dead at Haight Ashbury's Matrix hall. In time he would resurface as the musical kundalini yogi, Guru Singh.
