Misc Notes: The Runabouts formed in Spokane in 1959 with original members: Mickey Davis, Paul Valsvig, Bud Dumas, Ron Irwin and Bobby Nichols (from Cottage Grove, Oregon). They were signed by Columbia Records in 1959 and saw singles released in 1960 and 1961. [Interestingly, Paul Revere and the Raiders' management has long bragged that they made history as the very first rock 'n' roll band to be signed by Columbia - an event that took place in mid-1963].
]In 1959 the Runabouts were booked on an East Coast dance tour. Along the way they befriended another pioneering instrumental rock band, Johnny and the Hurricanes, from Toledo, OH. At tour's end, Davis and Nichols remained while the other bandmates returned home and regrouped. In 1967 the band's second drummer, Joe Cavender, resurfaced in a new Spokane band, London Taxi.
