Misc Notes: A Texas-born saxophonist who began performing in the 1940s, and in 1955 hired on with Bill Doggett, playing the famous solos on the R&B hit "Honky Tonk." From there he worked as a Los Angeles-based session player, recording with influential bands led by the likes of: James Brown, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Freddie King -- and in 1966-1968 was a member of Ray Charles' band. He is included here due to his work with Portland's soul/jazz group, the Delegates.
