TOM OGILVY WRITES SEAFAIR SONG
Greater Seattle's drive to raise $25,000 to finance the Seafair Trophy purse race on Lake Washington Sunday, August 5th, got an "assist" from a Capitol Hill song writer and Associated Grocers this week. The grocery concern announced that it has financed the making of 45 rpm and 78 rpm records of a folk song titled "Old Rooster Tail (The Legend Of A Proud Racing Boat)". Written by Thomas B. Ogilvy, 1236 19th Avenue No., with royalty proceeds going to the Seafair race fund. Ogilvy's song has been adopted for the theme of this year's Seafair. Pressed under the label of the Seafair Records Company, the records went on sale at music stores and record counters Thursday. The Associated Grocers will also market the record at their Seattle Thriftway stores. On Capitol Hill it will be Price and Stephens Thriftway, 416 15th Ave, No. Sale price is 89 cents for the 45s and 98 cents for the 78s. Ogilvy wrote the folk song as a salute to this year's first running of the Seafair Trophy race. A unique feature of the record is the authentic roar of the hydroplanes running on Lake Washington during last year's Gold Cup race, which is used to open and close the song. Recorded by the "Seagull Six" the song features the Whitney Brothers with the E'lan Trio.
