Stats: 1954-2022
Misc Notes: Born in Olympia, Washington, in 1954, Jon Strongbow spent years traveling before settling into his artistic career in 1984.  A Seattle-based artist, musician, and writer, he was known for his intricate pen and ink drawings that blended mythology, folklore, and urban landscapes. He was a fixture at Pike Place Market for over 20 years, where he exhibited his Secret City Series, a collection of works that explored Seattle’s evolving identity through a mix of historical and fantastical elements. His work often depicted Native American themes, mystical figures, and surreal cityscapes, reflecting his deep connection to storytelling and symbolism. Beyond visual art, Strongbow was also a musician, recording 12 jazz albums both solo and with his band Mystery School. He self-published several books, including The Fury of the Four Corners (1988) and The Ocean of Time (2008). Strongbow passed away on December 19, 2022, after battling liver disease and cancer. His legacy lives on through his artwork, music, and the impact he had on Seattle’s creative community.
