J. A. Sumler was born on August 29, 1931 in Jeanerette, LA. At age 15 he joined the Southland Jubalairs. At 19 he joined the "famous" Heavenly Gospel Singers. In 1962 while touring, he was inspired to become a preacher, and went ion to serve as the District Evangelist for the Church of God In Christ.
