Dore [CA]

LOCATION: Hollywood, CA.
OWNER(s): Lew Bedell & Herb Newman
TIMESPAN: 1958--1982
MISC NOTES:  This California-based company released singles by several Northwest singers including Ronnie Height, Billy Saint, and Darwin Lamm. After co-founding and leading Tacoma's Wailers, John Greek moved to Hollywood in 1961 and over subsequent years played in various bands and made his way into the studio scene as a session player. At the Dore label Greek worked as a song-writer, arranger, or producer on numerous projects -- and it is rumored that the earliest one, the 1963 surf-rock guitar instrumental by Johnny "Z" -- may have been his own secret project. Greek is definitely credited on the labels of discs by various non-Northwest artists as listed directly below:

  • 816: Brandi Perry -"Just Passing Through" / "Round Trip" [1968?]
  • 835: Jim Sears - "Last Night I Heard A Baby Cry - Part 1" / "Last Night I Heard A Baby Cry - Part 2" [1969]
  • 837: The Green Grass - "Green Grass - Part 1" / "Green Grass - Part 2" [1969]
  • 845: Bobby Reynolds - "I Don't Want to Get Involved" / "A House Divided" [1970]
  • 857: Billy Joe & the Checkmates - "Newport Beach Concerto" / "Ambrosia"  [1970]
  • 877: DAX - Bienvenido Amigo" / "Garden Of Eden" [1969]
