MISC NOTES: It appears all recording sessions for songs issued on WASP - except the two on #119 - were conducted at William "Bill" Wiley's Wiley Sound Studios located in north Tacoma, WA. By the late 1960s and into the early '70s Bakersfield, CA country singer/guitarist Gene Breeden - soon to be the owner of Ripcord Recording and Ripcord Records in Vancouver, WA - was producing / arranging songs being recorded at Wiley Sound Studios for pressing/release on Wasp . During the 1960s and into the early '70s Wasp was the "Big Dog" country label in the Pacific Northwest. With the demise of Wasp, Gene Breeden picked up the country banner and, with Ripcord and his other "house labels," created an even "Bigger Dog" that romped its way into the early 1980s.
Throughout its period of existence Wasp retained the same, relatively plain, design format. That format included double horizontal lines top to bottom of the label left of the spindle hole. Encased within the lines was the label's post office box address. To the left of these lines was the word Wasp spelled out the length of the spindle hole from top to bottom of the label. With two exceptions, the retail label color background for WASP 45s was orange. There are only two known examples of 45s with an all white promo background.label. Numerals and lettering on both retail and promo labels were in black. During and following the productive year of 1967, the above orange retail coloration format was embellished with white accents around the WASP name. The color scheme was reversed for a few of the promotional discs known to exist from the label's latter years. There is only one known Wasp album. That label (#1001) reflects the 1967 + design/colorization format.
