Westwind Records [I]

LOCATION: Anacortes, WA
OWNER(s): Jim Bailey
TIMESPAN: 1959-1960
MISC NOTES: Westwind Records was owned and operated by Jim Bailey, a radio DJ who'd been born in Seattle, and went on to work at stations in Montana,South Carolina and California before returning home to the Pacific Northwest. On November 3, 1956, he began hosting a morning show at Anacortes' KAGT where he spun discs daily until March 28, 1958, when he joined the staff at Bellingham's KENY. Soon after that move Bailey discovered a young local rock 'n' roll band, the Swags, and began booking local teen-dances with them. Bailey then launched Westwind Records and released a few singles by local talents - and went on to negotiate a national licensing deal with the big-time Los Angeles-based label, Del-Fi Records, for the Swag's single.
