Yantis Recording Services

LOCATION: 1855 Yantis Street, Olympia, WA.
OWNER(s): George Yantis (d.2008)
TIMESPAN: 1950s & '60s
MISC NOTES: In 1958 George Yantis was responsible for capturing the very first recorded "studio" version of the Fleetwoods's freshly written song, "Come Softly To Me". His audio engineering company went on to record numerous local school choirs and orchestras among other projects. Upon his passing in 2008, people posted messages on the Daily Olympian's website. Among them were the following bits: "You were my hero as a leader of youth, a fair and honest elected official, an airplane pilot, a skilled bulldozer operator, a member of the Husky crew, US Army veteran of WWII a great musician, and a devoted husband, father and grandfather." ... "George was such a unique and special person who wore many hats:contractor, entrepreneur, fundraiser, engineer, equestrian, filmmaker, record producer, politician, even PTA president, a loving father and husband, children's advocate and so much more. You were amazing: stringing wires from your house all the way to Capital Lake so that there could be music at Christmas Island, you went on location with your recording equipment to capture rare folk and "old time" music which you made into records..."
