Misc Notes: "Portland's Pillar Of Soul" began his singing career in the late-1950s with Portland's doo-wop group, the Monterays. He went on to record in Seattle with Ron Buford for Camelot Records. In 1967 Thomas went to the Cincinnati, Ohio, headquarters of King Records where his song, "Here Comes The Hurt," was recorded by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters and then released as a single. From there Thomas moved on the New York where he began a solo career, performing at the Apollo Theater. After that he returned to the West Coast and began recording in Los Angeles for UNI Records - songs that included the famed soul singer Brenda Holloway on backing vocals. Eventually resettling in Portland, years later Thomas would resurface recording and gigging with a new band Ural Thomas and the Pain.
