MISC NOTES: "In January of this year former members of two Portland groups Ice and Brothers and Friends joined forces to create Shock. A dance group, recent months have seen Shock performing for one nighters and clubs around the Portland area. Shock's Steve Snyder characterizes the band's repertoire as a combination of contemporary and original music with a heavy funk orientation. Commenting on the two recordings, he says "Shock" is an up tempo dance number with a soul/funk feel. Lyrically it puts in a plug for the band itself. "Dance And Have Fun" , says Snyder, is an up tempo, but more disco oriented tune with lyrical focus on the title. Both songs are aimed at getting people dancing and having a good time." The preceding originally appeared in NORTHWEST DISC-COVERIES & SOUND REPORT Volume 4 #7 September, 1979.

Keyboard artist and vocalist Mark Jeneniewski has been kicking around the Portland's music scene for eight years playing everything from "soup to nuts, rock to lounges." A year and a half ago while appearing with guitarist Chuck Wentzel under the name Wild Child, the two decided to being putting together their "dream band." With the addition of new personnel came the name change to Oasis and, now, Freeway, plus a change of venue from lounges to the rock club environment. Commenting on today's Freeway, Jeleniewski says the act lays down a blend of funk, soul, jazz and rock in a very dance-oriented format. And, he emphasizes, that format is becoming more and more highlighted by original material. As for the band's first recordings, Mark says both feature a near-funk dance feel. "Get The Feelin" is described as good time dance music, while the faster "help yourself" carries the philosophical message "Don't Waste Time. Get out and do what you want."
The preceding was originally featured in NORTHWEST DISC-COVERIES & SOUND REPORT Volume6 #6 October, 1981.

MISC NOTES: The name J. Michael Kearsey may not be familiar to many, but as bassist for Portland's popular Latin rock group Upepo he has been and integral part of the Northwest music scene for the past eight years. Now, in addition to his Upepo duties, J. Michael has his own name stage center with his first record release. Commenting on the project, Kearsey says that as a long time songwriter / guitarist he often performs in local coffee houses and lounges, a solo career he decided to give a boost with a record outing showcasing his songwriting and production talents. As for the recordings, "Berkshire Snow" is described as a mid-tempo country ballad with a high-and-lonesome sound. Lyrically the tune relates to personal feelings of being away from the Berkshire Hills of Massachusettes. "Pick Up Your Heels And Go", continues Mike is a happy uptempo western number penned some eleven years ago. Lyrically it concerns the truism that the only was to follow the path of one's life is to get up and go wherever that path may lead. [NORTHWEST DISC-COVERIES & SOUND REPORT Volume 6 #4 June, 1981]
