The Kinks' guitarist Dave Davies: “We played that record over and over. And Ray copied a lot of his vocal style from that guy [Jack Ely]. I was always trying to get Ray to sing, because I thought he had a great voice, but he was very shy. Then we heard The Kingsmen and he had that lazy, throwaway, laid-back drawl in his voice, and it was magic.” [Johnny Black, "The Kinks: Hellfire Club" Mojo Magazine. (#82, September 2000).
