Blue Horizon Records

LOCATION: Tacoma, WA. (#100 - 102) / Los Angeles, CA. (#6051 - 6054) / Tacoma, WA (#BH100 - 1)
OWNER(s): Founded by Josie Wilson (mother of Don Wilson, rhythm guitarist with the Ventures). Bob Reisdorff (Dolton Records)  later acquired a 50% interest in the label.
TIMESPAN: 1959 - 1962 / 2009
MISC NOTES: The Blue Horizon label was founded after Bob Reisdorff of Seattle's Dolton Records declined to sign the Ventures following a live audition. Not long thereafter,  with  two successful Blue Horizon releases under their belt,  the group was picked up  by Dolton. Both labels  moved to Hollywood in late-1961 and shared new corporate offices. Blue Horizon was eventually sold to Liberty Records and went on to issue records by various acts including Fleetwood Mac. Throughout the Ventures'  Dolton years "A Blue Horizon Master" appeared on many singles and LP labels. Lastly: it was revived in the Northwest during 2009 for release of an LP and CD saluting 50 years of music by THE VENTURES & THE FABULOUS WAILERS.

MISC NOTES: A-side is a comedic parody of actor Walter Brennan's popular television show "The Real McCoys" (1957 - 1963) style of speech. Guitarist Don Wilson provided the vocal impersonation of Brennan. Record may have been released as early as September 1959. When "Walk, Don't Run" was released on Dolton (#25), b-side was originally "Home." Later pressings (#25 X) featured "The McCoy" which was remake of "The Real McCoy" speeded up and without voice impersonations.
